One of the top questions we get from parents is regarding the amount of toothpaste they should be using. Did you know the amount of toothpaste we recommend is actually based on the child's age?
One of the top questions we get from parents is regarding the amount of toothpaste they should be using for their little ones. Did you know that it's actually recommended based on age and tooth development? Here is a guide that we like to go by for our amazing patients.
- Before teeth even begin to come in we recommend keeping the gums clean by using a clean washcloth to wipe the gums.
- We recommend a "training" toothpaste to use until the molars start coming in.
- We recommend using a "rice size" amount of toothpaste that has fluoride in it for children under the age of three. Switch to the fluoride toothpaste when molars are erupting.
- Children over the age of three we recommend using a "pea size" amount of toothpaste.
As always, we recommend brushing and flossing twice a day with night time being the most important, to help rid particles of food and plaque from the teeth. Getting in this routine helps to keep the sugar bugs away!
